Can anyone be in the program?

Prospective students that are Missouri residents and have been accepted to Truman State University by Jan. 15 have the opportunity to be considered for the program. Students are selected based on demonstrated classroom, school and/or community leadership.

What is the purpose of the Truman Leadership Scholar Program?

The Harry S. Truman Leadership Scholar Program was designed to recognize the importance of diverse contributions in the Truman State University community and invest in the development of tomorrow’s leaders.

What is the scholarship amount and what can the funds be used for?

The scholarship provides a limited number of $12,000/year awards, which can be applied toward the cost of tuition and on-campus room & board. The scholarship is renewable for eight semesters. The Harry S Truman Leadership Scholarship supersedes other Truman-funded scholarships.

Can I move off-campus and still receive this scholarship?

Students are welcome to move off campus after their first year at Truman State University, but recipients of the Harry S Truman Leadership Scholar scholarship cannot apply those funds to off campus housing.

Can I use the scholarship to study abroad?

Yes, but students are required to make arrangements with the Financial Aid Office about how the scholarship can be applied to paying for the study abroad program. Additionally, the application of scholarship funding towards study abroad must take place within the eight semesters provided.

Can I graduate early and apply the scholarship to a graduate program?

Absolutely! As long the graduate program is at Truman State University.
